Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea should attempt to recruit Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha this summer, according to Graeme Bailey.
Tottenham struggled in the middle of the park last season despite a central midfield lineup that included Rodrigo Bentancur, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Yves Bissouma, Oliver Skipp, and Pape Matar Sarr.
It remains to be seen who will come and depart this summer as Ange Postecoglou attempts to rebuild the Tottenham Hotspur squad to his taste. There is anticipated to be an exodus of players departing the club before the start of the new season (Telegraph).
According to Football Insider’s Peter O’Rourke, finding a new central midfielder is one of Postecoglou’s main goals in his first transfer window with the Lilywhites.
Spurs were previously connected with Fulham player Joao Palhinha, and were reputedly informed they would have to spend about £50 million to get him (Football Insider).
Tottenham should be interested in Joao Palhinha.
Graeme Bailey discussed the talent of Palhinha on the Chasing Green Arrows Podcast and voiced his astonishment that more teams are not trying to recruit the Fulham midfielder this summer.
The writer appears to have persuaded both Tottenham and Chelsea to pursue the 27-year-old.
“I’m surprised Tottenham hasn’t been there, and I’m surprised Chelsea hasn’t been there as well,” he remarked.
“Palhinha and Caicedo would be fantastic investments for Chelsea, and I can’t believe he’s not getting more attention.”
Palhinha is a talented midfielder who would fit in at any of England’s best teams.
The only issue is that I don’t see Fulham making it easy for any team wanting to grab him away from them. I believe he will remain with Fulham this season and perhaps go on next summer.
