Despite a difficult summer in the transfer market, Liverpool’s campaign has started well.

A thrilling draw against Chelsea was followed by victories over Bournemouth and Newcastle.

The win at St. James’ Park will be especially satisfying given that they were reduced to ten men for much of the game.

However, as the transfer window closes, Jurgen Klopp remains dissatisfied with his present group.

He wants to recruit at least one more midfielder, with Ryan Gravenberch appearing to be the most likely candidate.

Lawrenson would agree, as he believes Cody Gakpo should not be playing in Liverpool’s midfield.

The £35 million player was signed as an attacker in January, but his adaptability has come in handy as Klopp has run out of options in the center of the field.

Lawrenson is perplexed as to why Gakpo is playing in Liverpool’s midfield.

When asked who would play up front for Liverpool in their major games this season, Lawrenson stated, “I think he’ll pick the strikers who are in form because he’s got a lot of strikers.”

“So, [Mohamed] Salah always, always, always starts. And I believe [Luis] Diaz will normally [start], with the other three having to compete for that spot.

“And [Cody] Gakpo has been playing, but almost as a midfielder, which unfortunately does not work.”

Gakpo may struggle to break into Liverpool’s first team if he tries to play in their front three right now.

Salah is essential, and the club will do everything in its power to rebuff any offer from Saudi Arabia.

Luis Diaz appears to be a Klopp favorite on the left and fits that role very well in tandem with Andy Robertson and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Gakpo isn’t your usual center-forward, but as Lawrenson believes, he needs to find a way into Liverpool’s starting lineup.

Klopp has the advantage of being able to rotate all of these players, as Darwin Nunez demonstrated against Newcastle.

It’s a good dilemma for Klopp to have heading into this season.
