Darwin Nunez was excellent for Liverpool against Southampton last night, despite failing to score

According to Luis Garcia, a former Reds forward. After the game, the Spaniard told ESPN FC that Nunez had a good game.

Nunez also had a very good game, in my opinion, even though he didn’t score,” Garcia said. “Better things are coming [for Liverpool] in the final games of the season, with chances to qualify [for the Champions League].”‘

Nunez is still seeking consistency.

Although Nunez wasn’t particularly bad last night, calling him a’very good game’ is a bit of a stretch. Expectations for the Uruguayan must be moderated, but not completely lowered.

We believe it is reasonable for Liverpool fans to expect slightly more from their £64 million signing at this point. Yes, he was responsible for the game’s pivotal moment, nipping in front of Issa Diop to win the crucial penalty. Otherwise, he didn’t appear to be a threat.

He appeared to get in the way of his teammates far too often, and he gave up the ball far too easily on several occasions.

The 23-year-old should be given some leeway because it was his first start in a month, but it would have been nice to see a little more goal threat.

Nonetheless, it would be preferable if Jurgen Klopp kept Nunez on the bench for Saturday’s game against Brentford. With Luis Diaz likely due for a rest and Diogo Jota still nursing a bruised rib, a spot may have opened up for him.

If he gets the nod alongside Cody Gakpo and Moahmed Salah this weekend, he’ll be hoping to do better than he did last night. There were some highlights, but we must disagree with Garcia on this one. Hopefully, better performances will follow.
