Alasdair Gold is perplexed as to why Tottenham did not sign Ilya Zabarnyi in January.

On his YouTube channel, the journalist has been discussing Tottenham‘s search for a new center-back this summer, and he claims that Zabarnyi is a player Tottenham has recently admired.

Of course, the Ukrainian defender joined Bournemouth in the January transfer window, and Gold is still perplexed as to why the north London club didn’t end up heading to Tottenham instead.

Zabarnyi was popular at Tottenham.
Gold delivered his judgement on the £24 million guy.

“Others I recall from last year are Pau Torres at Villarreal, who may return to Villa to work with Unai Emery.” Ilya Zabarnyi was also a favorite of the Spurs. I’m not sure why they didn’t pursue the person a little bit more. “Perhaps it was because they couldn’t get players out the door that he ended up going to Bournemouth,” Gold said.

Keep an eye out for him.
Zabarnyi may have joined Bournemouth at this stage, but it doesn’t mean he won’t return to Spurs at some time.

With all due respect to the Cherries, they are a little club, and if someone like Zabarnyi plays well on the south coast, he will be ready to be cherry-picked by a team like Spurs.

To be honest, Tottenham have the financial clout and footballing clout to entice someone like Zabarnyi away from Bournemouth, and with the defender clearly having fans within Tottenham, this might be reviewed in a year’s time.
