‘Honestly…’ – Barry Ferguson unveils new Clement sack conclusion based on what he heard at Rangers

Despite intense pressure at Ibrox, Barry Ferguson believes Philippe Clement will stay Rangers manager for the foreseeable future

With nine points separating the Gers from Celtic and Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, having just slipped up to the Dons and Kilmarnock, water is rising around the Belgian’s ankles.

Could Philippe Clement stay as Rangers’ manager till the conclusion of the season?
According to Tam McManus, Clement was only 45 minutes away from being fired when Motherwell seized a 1-0 lead in the Scottish League Cup semi-final at Hampden Park recently.

That is hardly surprising given the amount of strain on the Belgian’s shoulders this season, but he may have bought himself a little more time following his comeback against Motherwell.

The forthcoming Europa League meeting against Olympiacos on Thursday, November 7 appears to be a critical match for the manager’s future in Scotland.

Fans are getting increasingly dissatisfied with their team’s current performance, even bringing banners to games to express their feelings about the management, but John Gilligan has maintained to back his boss.

Ferguson stated on the Go Radio Football Show [6 November]: “In terms of the manager, I believe he is here to stay for the foreseeable future.” I truly believe that.

“John Gilligan has mentioned it a few times.” They simply have to ride it and see what happens in the following months.”

If the Gers lose in Greece, it’s difficult to see how Clement will avoid being fired as the Light Blues fall further down the Europa League table and struggle in the league.

However, it would be a huge call for an interim manager, leaving the Gers without a skipper to steer the sinking ship, but it may be necessary soon.
