Celtic trail 2-1 at halftime against Falkirk in the Premier Sports Cup quarterfinals at Celtic Park
Falkirk scored the lead in the 11th minute through Ross MacIver’s well-placed effort from outside the box, putting Celtic on the back foot early on.
A mix-up between Álex Valle and Reo Hatate gave MacIver enough time and space to shoot, leaving Kasper Schmeichel unable to save.
In the 21st minute, Paulo Bernardo equalized for the Hoops after Álex Valle’s header. The Portuguese midfielder rifled the ball past Falkirk goalkeeper Nicky Hogarth.
Celtic pressed for the lead for much of the half, getting a corner in the 45th minute, but Falkirk scored again just before halftime.
Finn Yeats headed the ball into the bottom right corner past Schmeichel from the heart of the Hoops box in the 45+1 minute, assisted by Alfie Agyeman, who had impressed throughout the half, to put Falkirk ahead 2-1 shortly before halftime.
Brendan Rodgers will undoubtedly have severe words for the Bhoys at halftime, presumably delivering some tips and telling them that Falkirk have come to play, not just participate.
Given the reception he received at halftime against Slovan Bratislava midweek, he will want to maintain the same intensity and attention in the second half.
