‘Getting closer’: 21-year-old drops transfer hint amid reports Liverpool are interested in signing him; Van Dijk thinks he’s ‘great’

Jurrien Timber, an Ajax defender, has hinted that he will leave this summer, amid reports that Liverpool and Tottenham are interested in him

Timber had another successful season with Ajax, but after staying put last summer, he is expected to leave this summer.

The 21-year-old has emerged as one of Europe’s standout young defenders. But Ajax knows they can’t keep him forever, especially with Premier League interest.

90Min previously stated that Liverpool and Tottenham are big fans of the defender. Speaking to the Dutch press, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano, Timber appears to be looking for a way out this summer.

Timber has certainly impressed current Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.

“At the same age, I wasn’t nearly as far along as he is now.” I only have positive things to say about him. He is an excellent player and a consummate professional. He has a lot of potential. Hopefully, he will continue to grow. Then everything will be fine, I believe,” Van Dijk said.

With these latest remarks, Timber appears to have a chance of teaming up with Van Dijk.

Timber has looked every bit the Eredivisie’s class act. As we all know, the step up to the Premier League is a big one, but if he has Van Dijk’s approval, he’s doing something right.

This summer, Liverpool requires a big summer. Jurgen Klopp’s priority is to sign new midfielders. Timber, on the other hand, is a fine player in his own right, and with the likes of Matip and Gomez facing uncertain futures, the Dutchman could be a good acquisition.
