From Lexington to the League: Andrew Carr Signs Free-Agent Deal with the Portland Trail Blazers

Another Wildcat is on his way to the big stage.
Former Kentucky forward Andrew Carr has officially signed a free-agent contract with the Portland Trail Blazers, launching the next chapter of his basketball journey in the NBA.

The Blazers made the announcement via social media, and the University of Kentucky followed with a heartfelt send-off: “Go be great!” And truly, Carr’s story is one of perseverance, growth, and quiet excellence finally earning its reward.

🏀 A Wildcat Worth Watching

Carr transferred into Mark Pope’s Kentucky program as a seasoned veteran, and while he didn’t put up gaudy stats, his impact was undeniable. At 6’10” with a smooth shooting touch, defensive versatility, and a team-first mentality, he was the kind of glue guy every team needs but often doesn’t fully appreciate until he’s gone.

Throughout the 2024-25 season, Carr carved out a reputation as a reliable stretch four who could defend multiple positions, knock down threes, and bring poise to high-pressure moments. Scouts took notice even if his name wasn’t called on draft night.

💼 Portland Sees the Potential

The Trail Blazers are in full rebuild mode, and signing Andrew Carr is a smart, low-risk, high-upside move. He fits their mold of long, switchable forwards who can stretch the floor and contribute on both ends.

Don’t be surprised if Carr impresses early in Summer League. His maturity and basketball IQ are already NBA-ready. And in Portland’s developmental system, he’ll have every opportunity to prove he belongs in the league long term.

🗣️ What They’re Saying

Coach Mark Pope had nothing but praise:
“Andrew’s a pro on and off the court. Portland’s getting a worker, a leader, and someone who’ll make winning plays every time he steps on the floor.”

Former teammates also showed love on social media, flooding Carr’s posts with congratulations and encouragement.

🚀 The Journey Begins

Undrafted? Sure.
Unstoppable? That’s the goal.

Carr now joins a long list of Kentucky players who’ve taken the tough road to the NBA and made it count. If his past is any indication, Andrew Carr’s story in Portland is only just beginning.

Congratulations, Andrew.
Time to go be great. ✊🏽💼🏀
