Duke Basketball Alum Marvin Bagley III Aims for a Comeback with the Wizards
After a challenging season, former Duke basketball standout Marvin Bagley III is set on rejuvenating his NBA career.
The 26-year-old forward/center, who was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in February after spending parts of two seasons with the Washington Wizards, is now returning to Washington as a free agent. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Bagley has agreed to a one-year deal with the Wizards, marking the beginning of his eighth season in the NBA.
Bagley, a former No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft following his ACC Player of the Year campaign at Duke, has also played for the Sacramento Kings and Detroit Pistons. Over the course of 289 NBA games, he has averaged 12.0 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting nearly 52 percent from the floor.
However, the 2023–24 season was a low point for Bagley. In a limited role across 31 games with Memphis and Washington, he averaged just 4.4 points and 2.7 rebounds in 8.5 minutes per contest—all career lows.
Now back with the Wizards, Bagley is looking for a fresh opportunity to reset and reassert his value as a reliable contributor in the league.
