Following an underwhelming season, Liverpool will look to bolster their squad this summer

Liverpool are said to be interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch this summer, with a deal reportedly “on the horizon.” However, the transfer could still fall through because Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has final say over the player’s departure.

Liverpool had a disappointing season in 2022/23, finishing fifth in the Premier League table and missing out on a place in the Champions League. With key midfielders Fabinho, Thiago, and Jordan Henderson all struggling for form, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is on the lookout for new midfield talent. And Gravenberch fits the bill.

After coming through the Ajax academy, the 21-year-old helped the club win three Eredivisie titles and two Dutch cups in 103 appearances. He moved to Munich last summer and signed a five-year contract with the German club after they paid £16 million to sign him. However, the ace has faded into obscurity at the Allianz Arena.

Gravenberch was a fringe player under former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann and has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter since Tuchel took over at the end of March.

According to SPORT1, the ace is on the verge of a move to Anfield, but it will depend on what Tuchel has in store for him next season. To keep Gravenberch at the club, the ex-Chelsea manager must outline a clear plan for him and provide him with perspective. If that doesn’t happen, a departure from Bayern Munich appears to be unavoidable.

Gravenberch appeared in just three Bundesliga games in 2022/23, as his team won its 11th consecutive league title. And he was unable to play in either leg of Bayern Munich’s Champions League quarter-final loss to Manchester City. However, Liverpool may still believe he has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League.

Former Liverpool favorites Roberto Firmino, James Milner, and Naby Keita have all left the club a year after Sadio Mane left Anfield for the Allianz Arena. During their most recent campaign, the north west giants were plagued by injuries and were unable to mount a title challenge.

Klopp, on the other hand, will be confident of getting his team back on track with a number of additions ahead of next season. And the German might be willing to take a chance on Gravenberch.
