First NFL interception for a former Alabama All-American

In order to rush the passer rather than cover receivers, the Minnesota Vikings selected Dallas Turner, an Alabama All-American outside linebacker, with the 17th pick in the NFL Draft on April 25.

The rookie has only been targeted six times in coverage going into Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, allowing four receptions for 36 yards in his 235 playing snaps with the Minnesota defense.

However, Turner intercepted quarterback Geno Smith’s first-and-10 throw from the Seattle 30-yard line on Sunday while he was covering tight end Noah Fant. With 5:42 remaining in the first half, Turner’s 4-yard interception return put the Vikings ahead 31 against the Seahawks.

With 3:33 remaining in the first half, Minnesota grabbed a 17-7 lead after Turner’s first career interception was converted into a field goal by Will Reichard, a former teammate from Alabama.
