Finance Expert: Rangers can afford to recruit a new player in January for £4 million.

According to Dan Plumley, Rangers are able to sign Motherwell midfielder Lennon Miller in January

Along with Liverpool and Celtic, the Bears want to sign the Fir Park wonder in January, but Motherwell will demand at least £4 million [Daily Mail, November 13].

Plumley maintains that Rangers can pay that sum without a significant overstretch at Ibrox, despite the team’s well-known financial problems and £17.2 million deficits in the most recent accounts.

The football financial expert exclusively told Ibrox News that danger is always present.

“I believe this is where the transfer market’s risk is exposed, especially when using the Scottish vs. English football scenario as an example.

“We are positive that Liverpool can afford the £4 million; it’s almost pocket money to them if Rangers, Celtic, and Liverpool are interested in this youngster.

“That puts pressure on Rangers in this area because, financially speaking, Rangers can also afford that £4 million; it’s not a huge overstretch.”

Will Lennon Miller join the Rangers?

“Rangers and Celtic can pay such fees, so it’s more of an overstretch than it is for Liverpool. It essentially comes down to how much of a chance are we taking on that specific player and do they think that will pay off in the long run?

Because Motherwell is aware of the market and the financial standing of those clubs, you can be sure they will hold their own in that circumstance.

Given their influence in Scottish football, I would say Rangers can afford such amounts, but Celtic can also. It’s a very difficult balance, and that’s the nature of the transfer market and where you’re taking that risk.

“The player will also have a say in whether it becomes stick or twist.”

Philippe Clement has lately decided on Nico Raskin and Connor Barron in midfield after much rearranging, but third place is still up for grabs.

Miller, who is expected to make a decision in January, would undoubtedly be given more playing time at Ibrox than at Liverpool or Celtic.
