Liverpool manager Fabrizio Romano stated that the club “will be there” if a player wanted by Manchester United is given the go-ahead, though doubts have been raised about his ability
With the departures of Arthur Melo, James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain confirmed, a midfield rebuild is now necessary.
Alexis MacAllister appears to be the first big name to arrive at Anfield. On Saturday afternoon, trusted Argentine reporter Gaston Edul delivered the goods.
Ryan Gravenberch is one of many midfielders who have caught Liverpool’s attention since the departure of Jude Bellingham.
Last summer, the Netherlands international joined Bayern Munich from Ajax for around £16 million. His first campaign in Bavaria, however, has not gone as planned.
Gravenberch has had difficulty unseating either Joshua Kimmich or Leon Goretzka in the engine room. Gravenberch’s situation is unlikely to improve next season, with Konrad Laimer also set to join from RB Leipzig.
Liverpool allegedly made a’strong pitch’ to Gravenberch and his camp in April, which was warmly received. The Reds appear to be willing to sign the player on loan with a purchase option or on a permanent basis.
Man United have also been linked, and their interest dates back to the winter transfer window.
When Christian Eriksen’s ankle injury forced United into the loan market on deadline day, Sky Sports reported Gravenberch was actually Erik ten Hag’s preferred midfield option ahead of Marcel Sabitzer.
According to reports from Germany, Bayern does not want to part ways with Gravenberch just one year after he arrived. Liverpool, on the other hand, “will be there” in the event of a change of heart, according to Fabrizio Romano.
“They don’t want to negotiate at this stage,” Romano told Give Me Sport, “so if Bayern decides to put him on the market and negotiate this summer, Liverpool will be there for sure.”
“Otherwise, I believe it will be complicated because Bayern has no intention of opening talks as of today.”
Gravenberch ineligible for Liverpool?
While Liverpool appear intent on making a move if possible, Ryan Taylor of the Daily Express is skeptical Gravenberch would improve the Reds.
Taylor told GMS in April, when speculation about Gravenberch first surfaced, “If he’s not good enough for Bayern Munich, why should he be good enough for Liverpool at the moment?”
“I know he’s a fantastic young player, but I don’t think Bayern are far ahead of Liverpool right now.”
“I know Liverpool has had a terrible season. I still believe that Liverpool will be as good as Bayern next season, and if Gravenberch isn’t deemed capable of getting into that team right now, I doubt he can get into Liverpool’s team.”
