According to sources who spoke with Football Insider, scouts were concerned about Evan Ferguson’s physical potential, which is why Tottenham decided not to sign him when he was just 15 years old
When the Brighton striker was in his mid-teens and making a name for himself in his native Ireland, Spurs closely followed him. At that point, they were strongly in the running to sign him from Irish club Bohemians.
According to sources, talent spotters from the London giants may have been impressed by Ferguson’s potential and believed he could succeed in the Premier League.
However, talks over an arrangement didn’t advance since scouts felt that the striker, then 15, had nearly arrived at his full actual size and felt quite doubtful about whether the remainder of his game could redress.
In any case, Ferguson went on to reach a height of 6 feet 2 inches and significantly expanded over the years.
In the end, Brighton came out on top in the race to acquire Ferguson from Bohemians in January 2021. Ferguson was 16 years old, and he was wanted by many Premier League clubs, including Liverpool.
At the age of 16, he made his Seagulls debut in an EFL Cup match. A month later, on his 17th birthday, he made his Premier League debut.
The young sensation, who will not turn 19 until next month, is now well-known as one of the best attackers in European football. Last weekend, he scored a hat trick for Brighton in their 3-1 Premier League victory over Newcastle United.
Ferguson has scored 14 goals in just 33 senior games for the south-coast club, including four league goals this season.
Football finance master and Brighton fan Kieran Maguire is in no question about the youth’s worth.
Maguire told Football Insider, “If his development continues, then in a year the club won’t stand in his way of a move.”
“He has every one of the properties of a youthful Shearer and Alan Shearer in the present market at 19 years old would be worth well over £100million.
