Liverpool is said to have launched a second proposal for Romeo Lavia, but former defender Jamie Carragher is not thrilled
The Reds are interested in signing Lavia from Southampton. As the transfer window nears its end, the midfielder is their first objective.
According to reports, a proposal of
around £46 million has been made for Lavia.
That has been refused, with Southampton demanding more than £50 million for their player.
In response to the news, Jamie Carragher said on X that the situation is embarrassing for his old team.
Liverpool have already made midfield additions this summer, but they will need even more after losing Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to the Saudi league.
Lavia is regarded as one of Europe’s greatest rising midfield prospects and is seen as a potential superstar by Southampton.
The Saints benched him in their win over Sheffield Wednesday on Friday. The club is expected to sell at some point, but only if their asking price is appropriately reached.
This is embarrassing.
Liverpool for years now have got deals done quickly with no fuss.
If you don’t think he’s worth 50M move on, if you really want him pay it.
Also not sure why LFC aren’t in for Caicedo, yes it’s a lot of money but Liverpool got big money for JH/FAB ????♂️ https://t.co/nNP05udQP8— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) August 7, 2023
Liverpool must complete Lavia.
Carragher does make a valid point here. If Liverpool knows it’s £50 million, why are they tinkering with bids just below that figure?
