Duke Signee Cameron Boozer Wins Gatorade Best Male Player of the Year, Capping Off Historic High School Career

LOS ANGELES — The ESPYs stage turned blue Wednesday night  Duke blue  as Cameron Boozer, the five-star power forward and future Blue Devil, was named Gatorade’s Best Male Player of the Year, a prestigious honor that crowns the top high school male athlete in the nation across all sports.

Boozer, who is preparing for his freshman year at Duke alongside his twin brother Cayden, joins an elite fraternity of past winners that includes names like LeBron James, Jayson Tatum, and Karl-Anthony Towns. The honor comes on the heels of Boozer also winning Gatorade’s National Boys Basketball Player of the Year in both 2023 and 2024  a feat few have ever achieved.

On the girls’ side, BYU track and field commit Jane Hedengren took home the award for Best Female Player of the Year.

“We’re proud to celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of this year’s group,” said Anuj Bhasin, Gatorade Chief Brand Officer. “Cameron Boozer represents everything this award stands for  elite performance, leadership, and character. He’s paving the way for the future of sport.”

A Dominant Force On and Off the Court

Fresh off his senior year at Miami Columbus High School, Boozer led the Explorers to a fourth straight Florida state championship. His final season stat line reads like something out of a video game:

  • 22.1 points
  • 11.8 rebounds
  • 3.2 assists
  • 1.9 steals
  • 1.5 blocks

But Boozer didn’t just dominate the court. He thrived academically with a staggering 4.82 weighted GPA, continuing the Gatorade tradition of honoring well-rounded excellence.

Ranked as the No. 3 overall player in the 2025 class by the Rivals Industry Ranking, Boozer has already become a household name in basketball circles. His On3 NIL Valuation sits at an estimated $1.5 million, reflecting his immense marketability and star power before ever playing a college game.

What Boozer Brings to Duke

Duke head coach Jon Scheyer couldn’t be more thrilled about his top-ranked 2025 recruiting class, led by the Boozer twins. He praised Cameron as a transformative talent with the perfect blend of basketball IQ, physical tools, and winning mentality.

“Cam is a special talent,” said Scheyer. “He’s the ultimate teammate and makes everyone around him better. His passing, ability to penetrate and score from anywhere on the floor is one-of-a-kind. His feel for the game, combined with his size, is exactly what you look for in a modern-day NBA player.”

Scheyer emphasized that what Cameron and Cayden have achieved at the high school level, in AAU, and with USA Basketball, is “unbelievable.” That winning pedigree is expected to translate immediately in Durham, where expectations are sky-high heading into the 2025–26 season.

A Legacy Already in Motion

As the son of former NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer, Cameron has grown up under the spotlight. But instead of shrinking from the pressure, he’s built a legacy of his own  one filled with championships, accolades, and now, one of the most prestigious honors a high school athlete can receive.

With college basketball just around the corner, the basketball world is eager to see what comes next.

If his past is any indication, Cameron Boozer isn’t just the future of Duke  he may be the future of the sport itself.
