Just weeks ago, UNC was in the mix for Italian phenom Dame Sarr, a rising star playing for FC Barcelona. But now, hopes of him suiting up in Chapel Hill have all but vanished—and to make matters worse for Tar Heel Nation, he’s likely headed to their biggest rival.
Reports earlier this week suggested Kansas was close to landing Sarr following an official visit. But Duke has since ramped up its pursuit, and now all signs point to the Blue Devils sealing the deal. Three new 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions dropped on Thursday in Duke’s favor—never a good omen for UNC fans.
The Tar Heels had once shown real interest in the dynamic 5-star shooting guard, but Hubert Davis and his staff have since shifted their focus to filling a need at the wing. Despite striking out on multiple targets—including a painful near-miss with Andrej Stojakovic—UNC is still exploring its options.
One of those is Florida State standout Jamir Watkins, who is currently testing the NBA Draft process. Should he return to college, UNC is expected to make a strong push to bring him to Chapel Hill.
