Adrian is said to have accepted a new contract with Liverpool, with his existing term set to end this month

According to rumours, former West Ham United goalkeeper Adrian has agreed to stay with Premier League rivals Liverpool once his current contract expires this month.

Liverpool stated on Thursday that they had offered the Spaniard, who made 150 appearances for the Hammers between 2013 and 2019, a new contract, although there was no official indication that it had been accepted. The Reds take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the first game of the two teams’ 2023-24 Premier League season on August 13 at 4.30pm.

Fabrizio Romano reports Adrian has decided to prolong his stay with the Reds with a new ‘done and sealed’ contract. He joined Liverpool in 2019 after turning down a three-year deal at the London Stadium four years prior.

Adrian has won the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and UEFA Super Cup with Liverpool, saving the game-winning penalty in a shootout triumph over Chelsea in 2019. He also played in Chelsea’s FA Cup win over Liverpool in 2020. He has made 26 appearances for the Reds and is currently the club’s third choice behind Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher, with only an injury crisis at Anfield likely to see him line-up at Stamford Bridge.

One of the Spaniard’s most memorable experiences with West Ham was winning a penalty shootout against Everton in an FA Cup third-round replay in January 2015.

In early 2020, he told the BBC about his West Ham departure: “I’d made a drastic decision not to stay any longer at West Ham, despite having a three-year contract offer on the table.” I hadn’t played a single Premier League game all season. To be honest, I didn’t feel economically valued either. It was difficult for me.

“When summer arrived, I felt those butterflies in my stomach.” I had a feeling something amazing was on its way. Before I received the initial offers, I was aware of Liverpool’s interest. They contacted me near the end of July. They stated that if I approved the sale, they would sell [Simon] Mignolet. That’s how it went down.”
