After a house accident prevented that from occurring a few weeks ago, Vitale will return.
According to recent reports, Vitale will return, but it will still be for a basketball game against the Blue Devils.
When the Blue Devils travel to play the Clemson Tigers (18-4, 10-1 ACC) on February 8th (6:00 p.m. ET, ESPN), Vitale will be back in the headset.
With Duke on a 15-game winning run and rated #2 in the country by the Associated Press poll, the broadcasting legend will return for a heavyweight ACC fight after nearly two years.
The Tigers have won nine of their previous ten games, seven of which were by double digits, despite being outside the AP poll looking in.
Vitale had surgery in the summer of 2024 after battling four distinct malignancies over the previous few years. He was initially anticipated to be on the air soon after being pronounced cancer-free on January 8.
However, he was prevented from doing so by an accident at home.
Following the incident, Vitale announced, “I regret to inform you that I will not be able to call the Duke-Wake Forest game next weekend.” “I experienced an accident at home in Florida, which has caused some new health issues and short-term physical limits for me. This incident has nothing to do with any of my cancer worries. Given the tremendous amount of support I got when I announced my intended comeback, I’m heartbroken that I won’t be courtside with my ESPN friend Dave O’Brien, as well as all the players and spectators. For the first time in almost two years, I was eagerly anticipating the opportunity to experience the thrill and vitality of a collegiate basketball setting.”
Vitale will now return to witness Cooper Flagg, a freshman star, play against a fierce Clemson squad on the road. Vitale’s return to the call, where he belongs, has pleased the collegiate basketball community.
