Veteran journalist Hugh Keevins has revealed that Philippe Clement earns £50,000 a week at Rangers.
Keevins made this eye-opening comment while discussing the pressure on Clement following Rangers’ recent Scottish Cup defeat to Queen’s Park, which led to increased scrutiny on the Belgian manager. Despite the loss, Keevins suggested that Rangers are unlikely to part ways with Clement due to the significant financial payout required to terminate his contract.
He stated, “I think he spoke yesterday with the confidence of someone who knows he won’t be fired.”
Keevins further speculated that Rangers may not be able to afford to dismiss Clement, who reportedly earns £2.5 million annually. He pointed out that the club’s recent reluctance to spend £400,000 on signing Lyall Cameron from Dundee – opting instead for a pre-contract agreement – illustrates how Clement’s wages could be a financial burden, with £400,000 representing just eight weeks of his salary.

Rangers legend Kris Boyd also commented, expressing concern that Clement might only be staying on due to the financial implications. “Philippe Clement is just hanging on to his job,” he said. “But the fans deserve to know if he’s still there because of financial reasons, especially given past statements from Patrick Stewart.”
