Liverpool have been put through their paces ahead of their season finale against Southampton on Sunday
Darwin Nunez has put himself in line for a late-season return to action as Liverpool prepare to travel to Southampton.
Nunez missed last Monday’s win at Leicester City as well as the weekend home draw with Aston Villa due to a minor toe injury.
However, the Uruguayan was back on the field on Tuesday afternoon at the AXA Training Centre, undergoing an individual fitness plan that included some ball work.
Nunez will now be hoping to resume full training before Liverpool’s final Premier League game of the season on Sunday against relegated Southampton.
The Reds need fourth-placed Manchester United to lose at home to Chelsea on Thursday to keep their Champions League qualification hopes alive. They have taken 22 points from the last 24 games in a strong finish to the season.
Naby Keita appears to have played his final game for Liverpool after his summer departure was confirmed last week and he was again absent from training. Nat Phillips, as well as long-term injury victims Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajectic, and Calvin Ramsay, were also missing.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is also leaving at the end of the season but hasn’t played in six weeks, took part in the session, as did on-loan Arthur Melo, who will play his final Premier League minute for Liverpool before returning to Juventus on Sunday.
