Darwin Nunez will miss Liverpool’s Premier League match against Aston Villa, according to Jurgen Klopp
Nunez’s season may be over after Klopp confirmed the Uruguayan will miss the Reds’ final game of the season.
The manager stated in his pre-match press conference that the striker “will not be available” due to “inflammation of the tendon in his toe.”
He also missed Liverpool’s most recent game, a 3-0 victory over Leicester at the King Power Stadium.
Nunez, according to Klopp, “hasn’t trained” and his injury is “very painful.”
This means he is unlikely to play again this season, with Liverpool’s only remaining match against Southampton coming up next week.
Fortunately, there are no new injury concerns, as Klopp confirmed: “Long-term injured are out, but all the rest should be available.”
While Nunez has become a fan favorite, Saturday’s chants will be reserved for a departing Liverpool legend.
Klopp confirmed that Roberto Firmino trained this week, implying that he may play in his final home game for Liverpool after eight years on Merseyside.
While a start is unlikely because the Brazilian hasn’t played in over a month, it is encouraging that he will be able to have one final run out at Anfield.
With the Reds still vying for a Champions League spot and needing to put pressure on Manchester United,
will select his strongest starting XI and will not allow emotion to influence his team selection.
“Villa’s football is like Villarreal a little bit when Unai [Emery] was there,” the manager said.
“It will be difficult, but we have to make it difficult for them, and it’s become more difficult for teams playing us recently.”
Nunez has suffered six different injuries during his first season at Anfield.
