After Man City’s loss, Neil Warnock bluntly tells Darwin Nunez to play for Liverpool, saying, “I can’t believe.”
Neil Warnock expressed his surprise at Darwin Nunez’s lost opportunities for Liverpool in their matchup with Manchester City.
Nunez had a night to forget as Pep Guardiola’s team defeated Liverpool, ending their Carabao Cup defense. Ci ty triumphed 3-2 at the Etihad.
Nunez, though, missed three excellent opportunities at various times throughout the game. Nevertheless, he did take credit for Mohamed Salah’s goal.
Nunez has had a difficult time adjusting to English football since joining the team from Benfica in the summer, but he has still managed to score nine goals in 19 games across all competitions. He is, however, inevitably compared to what Erling Haaland is accomplishing for City.
Warnock thinks the Reds would have won the match if they had started the Norway international up front, since Haaland has scored 18 goals in his first 14 Premier League games and gave his team the lead last night.
The chances Nunez missed, he said, “I can’t believe the chances he missed. If Liverpool had Haaland, they would have won easily.”
“But I thought what a good indication for Liverpool, the best I’d seen in a while, and I simply thought with the players out they would try to get something at the back in January if they can,” he continued. Simply said, I believed it to be encouraging for Liverpool.
