Danny Murphy slams Ange lieutenant shocked Celtic ace still at the club after Man Utd star and former Rangers player dominated

It was a weekend of mixed emotions for Rangers and Celtic following another round of Premiership fixtures.

Both teams played on Saturday, with Rangers hosting Motherwell in a 3 PM kickoff, giving them a chance to close the gap on league leaders Celtic, who played later in the afternoon against St Mirren. However Rangers squandered that opportunity by suffering a 2-1 home defeat to the Steel men, allowing Celtic to extend their lead to 16 points.

Celtic capitalized on Rangers’ slip-up by securing a dominant 5-2 victory over St Mirren. Next weekend, they shift their focus to the Scottish Cup, where they will face Hibernian, while Rangers prepare for a challenging Europa League last-16 first-leg clash against Fenerbahce. Here are some of the latest headlines surrounding both clubs: Former Rangers Player Shines Against Manchester United

In the FA Cup, Rangers’ record sale, Calvin Bassey, played a key role in Fulham’s victory over Manchester United. Bassey, who moved to Ajax for €22.5 million before joining Marco Silva’s Premier League side, impressed in the match.

BBC Sport pundit Danny Murphy praised Bassey’s performance, particularly his physical dominance over Man United striker Rasmus Hojlund and his first-half goal. Murphy said: *”He has been one of Fulham’s best players. He’s been aggressive, winning the ball early, and physically dominating Hojlund. It was a great goal.”*

Fellow pundit Micah Richards was surprised by United’s poor defending, which allowed Bassey to rise above the defense and score. The former Rangers defender, who started his career at Leicester City, was instrumental in Rangers’ 2021 title win and their Europa League final run the following year.

Kewell Surprised Maeda Is Still at Celtic

Harry Kewell, who worked under Ange Postecoglou at Celtic, has expressed his surprise that Daizen Maeda has not yet been snapped up by another club.

Speaking to *Record Sport*, Kewell praised the Japanese forward’s energy and pressing ability, stating: *”I’m surprised no one has come in for Daizen yet. With the way football is played today, his high-pressing style and relentless energy make him an ideal player for any team.”*

Kewell believes Celtic may struggle to keep hold of Maeda if he continues his impressive form, adding: *”If he keeps scoring, it’ll be tough for Celtic to hold onto him. Other clubs will take notice, which is a testament to the fantastic job Celtic have done in developing him.”
