Clinton Nsiala Not in Russell Martin’s Plans as Anderlecht Show Interest

Clinton Nsiala is set to move away from Rangers this summer, as he doesn’t feature in manager Russell Martin’s immediate plans. The French centre-back made 11 appearances in the Scottish Premiership during his first season at Ibrox but struggled to secure regular first-team football.

Following the recent 1-1 draw with Club Brugge, Martin confirmed that Nsiala will be allowed to leave during the transfer window—most likely on loan. At 21, the defender needs consistent playing time to continue his development, which he’s unlikely to find if he remains at the club.

Anderlecht Join Chase for Rangers Prospect

According to Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri (19 July), Belgian giants Anderlecht have expressed strong interest in signing Nsiala. Other Belgian sides, including Zulte-Waregem and KV Mechelen, are also monitoring the situation, but the Jupiler Pro League is reportedly the player’s preferred destination.

Rangers Must Resist Permanent Sale

Although Nsiala isn’t currently in contention for a starting role—especially with Nasser Djiga and Emmanuel Fernandez arriving this summer, and John Souttar still in the squad—Rangers should avoid selling him permanently. With continued growth and proper guidance, the former France U16 international could develop into a top-class defender.

The club is also pursuing Conor Coady, which would further limit Nsiala’s opportunities in the short term. Still, player progression is rarely linear, and the Gers may need him in future seasons.

With 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh now leading the club’s long-term vision, a hasty decision could be costly. Nsiala has significant potential, and a temporary loan to gain experience would be the best solution. The hope is that he returns to Auchenhowie next summer more mature and ready to challenge for a first-team role.
