UNC’s Hubert Davis Helping Lead U19 National Team at USA Basketball Camp
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — North Carolina head coach Hubert Davis is spending the week in Colorado Springs, taking on a special role at the USA Basketball U19 National Team Training Camp. The event gathers some of the top prospects from the 2025 and 2026 high school classes, and Davis is serving as one of the camp’s court coaches.
More than 30 years after he represented Team USA as a player and won gold at the 1991 Summer Universiade, Davis is back in a different capacity—this time helping to shape the next generation of American basketball talent. When offered the role, Davis didn’t hesitate to say yes.
He’s running drills and coaching scrimmages alongside fellow college coaches Nate Oats (Alabama), Damon Stoudamire (Georgia Tech), and Mark Pope (Kentucky). Each coach leads a team that competes in daily scrimmages.
After Sunday’s session, Davis spoke with Inside Carolina about his experience and offseason priorities.

How did the coaching opportunity with USA Basketball come about?
“I was invited, and I accepted right away. It’s a great experience.”
With so much happening in recruiting and the transfer portal, why did you make time for this camp?
“Any chance to represent your country and work with the national team is special. I played for USA Basketball in college, and it’s an honor to now contribute as a coach.”
What’s it like spending time with other college coaches you usually compete against?
“It’s actually one of the best parts of being here. During the season, we’re all locked into our own programs. But here, we get to talk, catch up, and share ideas over meals and at practice.”
What’s this offseason been like as you rebuild your roster for 2025–26?
“I’m excited about the new season. Every year is a chance to represent this amazing university, and I’m looking forward to coaching this new group.”
How has having a general manager like Jim Tanner changed your offseason?
“The structure helps, but it’s still about being on the court. We’ve focused a lot on individual skill development, team practices, and making sure our guys are improving. That’s what this summer has been all about.”
You’ve added two international players, Henri Veesaar and Luka Bogavac. What stood out about them?
“It’s not just about them—it’s every player on this team. I’m grateful to coach each one of them. Being part of their journey is something I truly value.”
