The Brazilian team Internacional has confirmed Alexandro Bernabei’s permanent move, formally ending the left-back’s tenure at Celtic. The alleged £5.5 million agreement follows Bernabei’s fruitful six-month loan stint with the team.
After leaving Lanús in 2022, the Argentine had found it difficult to establish himself in Glasgow. But in Brazil, where his performances for Internacional in the second half of 2024 attracted attention, his fortunes drastically shifted. Internacional declared in a formal statement:
According to Sport Club Internacional, talks to hire left-back Alexandro Bernabei have been finalized with Celtic Football Club. After making an impression during the 2024 season, the athlete agreed to a deal that would last until December 2028.
Bernabei participated in 23 league games while on loan, contributing three goals and six assists. He won the Brazilian Championship’s best left-back title for his crucial contributions to Internacional’s comeback after a difficult campaign. In reference to his transfer, Bernabei stated:
“My family and I are really content here. I want to keep trying my hardest to assist Inter in achieving outstanding outcomes. I am aware of the shirt’s weight and size. It’s time to keep searching for the greatest successes alongside my teammates and our supporters.
Celtic received a substantial return from the £5.5 million charge; a year ago, they probably couldn’t have imagined such a valuation. Bernabei never really got going since he had a hard time adjusting to life in Glasgow.
Bernabei’s Celtic career comes to an end with this transfer, and the left back will now try to build on his success in Brazil. It’s time for Celtic to introduce their own left back.
