Celtic chuck the Champions League ‘free punch’ myth out the dressing room window as top seeds give strong warning.

The Hoops got their new league phase off to a flying start with a five-star performance against Slovan Bratislava

Liam Scales believes Celtic can take their Champions League campaign on the road.

The Hoops began the league campaign on a high note with a five-star performance against Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday, sparking a Parkhead party. Brendan Rodgers’ side now faces back-to-back away games against Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and Atalanta in Italy. Scales understands that home games might be critical in advancing to the knockout stages, with RB Leipzig, Club Brugge, and Young Boys Bern on the road.

However, the Irishman is confident that Celts can conjure more magic on the road and hopes to gain up points away from Parkhead. Scales, who scored the opening goal against Slovakia, remarked, “It’s the best start we could have hoped for.” Obviously, you can sense the mood at home. The teams that come here will feel it. It is critical for us to score as many points at home as possible.

“Now, can we build on it? We need to use it as a platform to keep getting strong results. I believe we are currently in a very excellent spot. We’re arguably in the best possible position to compete in the Champions League this year.

“Even against the highest seeded teams. We require a certain level of belief. We can succeed if we play our game well. On paper, Dortmund and Atalanta will be our most difficult ties. Some may consider it a free punch, but we don’t. We want to approach every game in the same way. We regard them as games that we could possibly win. “That is how we prepare for them.”

Rodgers promised that his team would go all out to make an impact, while Scales confessed confidence is high following a magnificent opening night. He stated, “I wouldn’t have known what the manager was saying publicly, but we’re hearing it in the dressing room. We hear that belief from him firsthand in the locker room.

“He’s telling us the same thing: this is a year for us to excel. I don’t think it adds any pressure to us because we’re fully invested and believe in it. It’s just the mindset we have right now.”

Scales believes Celtic are in better position for the Champions League than last season, and he feels right at home. The defender said, “Yes, 100%. Last year was my first experience with it. The atmosphere of the first game astounded me within the first few minutes. Now I can go in knowing exactly what to expect.

“That makes a difference for me, I believe, since I can remain calm and simply play the game. Personally, I feel more prepared this year than last year. We played in the Champions League during the first part of last season as a team.

“The manager was new, and we were building, learning how he wanted to play. We’ve gotten off to a great start this season. We’re at a different stage as a team because we know what we’re doing and are performing well.

“Genuinely pleased”: McCoist’s surprising reaction to Celtic’s Champions League goal

Celtic are representing Scottish football in the Champions League this season, and they did so admirably by defeating Slovakian giants Slovan Bratislava 5-1 on Wednesday night

The overwhelming victory at Parkhead started with Liam Scales’ powerful header from Arne Engels’ corner, giving the reigning Scottish Premiership champions a half-time lead.

Rangers icon Ally McCoist provided commentary for TNT Sports’ coverage of Manchester City vs. Inter Milan at the Etihad Stadium.

But it didn’t stop his colleague for the evening, Peter Schmeichel, father of Celtic goalie Kasper, from reminding the Rangers hero of the Glasgow result.

“I was genuinely pleased for the Glasgow team,” McCoist said with a chuckle when questioned about Celtic’s 1-0 lead at halftime.

“It looked offside from here, definitely,” he remarked sheepishly about Scales’ goal.

‘Madness’ – Pundit tears into ‘Crazy’ Rangers man over what he said after the loss to Celtic.

Andy Halliday has lambasted Rangers boss Philippe Clement for comments he made during the Gers’ defeat to Celtic at Parkhead

The Light Blues suffered defeat in the season’s first Old Firm rivalry on Sunday (1 September), when Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops won 3-0, leaving the Gers trailing in the Premiership title race.

Although Open Goal analyst Halliday believes the players let their manager down on the pitch, he says the Belgian’s decision to bring up the earlier win over Ross County after the game was “crazy”.

Speaking on the Open Goal YouTube channel (3 September, 28:43), he said: “What I think is insane is that he brought up the Ross County outcome after the game.

“Let us not forget that we achieved our best result in four years last week against Ross County. Bringing that up is ridiculous to me.

Will Rangers sack Philippe Clement following their Old Firm loss to Celtic at Parkhead?
While large wins over Ross County may get fans out of their seats on the day, those are not the performances on which you will be evaluated as Rangers manager. Supporters want you to win those games consistently.

Where you make your money and get praise are clashes with Celtic and European matches, and so far, Clement has failed to deliver in either of those fixtures, with the exception of a few of strong Europa League results early in his tenure.
The Gers boss bringing up County’s thrashing after such a bad performance against their Glasgow rivals is not only odd, but also quite foolish, since he should have known that would not sit well with fans.

Comments like these will only put the pressure on the Belgian from fans and commentators in the coming weeks. Something has to change quickly for him to gain the supporters’ support and demonstrate that he is the man to bring a title back to Ibrox.
