BREAKING: UNC Extends Offer to 5⭐️ Point Guard King Gibson — Tar Heels Eye Next EYBL Sensation

The University of North Carolina is turning heads on the grassroots circuit once again, extending a coveted scholarship offer to 2027 five-star point guard King Gibson of Team United EYBL. The Raleigh native has been lighting up the EYBL with a dynamic all-around game that has scouts and coaches buzzing  and now, Tar Heel Nation can add his name to their dream recruit list.

“King Gibson is exactly the kind of athlete and leader we want running our point,” UNC head coach Hubert Davis said in a statement. “He’s got the length, the vision, and the motor to make an immediate impact in Chapel Hill.”

A Statistical Showcase

Through the EYBL season, Gibson has put up eye-popping numbers:

  • 17.3 points per game
  • 3.9 assists per game
  • 5.7 rebounds per game
  • 1.4 blocks per game

At 6’6”, he combines positional versatility with a true floor general’s instincts, using his length to penetrate passing lanes, finish at the rim, and orchestrate fast breaks with precision. His ability to guard multiple positions from sizzling wings to shifty guards  makes him a defensive nightmare on the perimeter.

The Tar Heel Pitch

UNC’s recruiting staff wasted no time making their pitch. Known for developing NBA-caliber guards like Tyler Hansbrough, Brandon Robinson, and most recently Coby White, the Tar Heels showcased their track record of turning blue-chip prospects into professional stars. They highlighted their player development resources, the storied history of UNC backcourts, and the opportunity for immediate playing time in Chapel Hill’s up-tempo system.

“Coach Davis showed me highlight reels of UNC point guards past and present,” Gibson said after receiving the offer. “He talked about how I could fit in and grow here. It’s a blessing to get that interest.”

Competition Heats Up

Gibson’s recruitment is already shaping up to be one of the premier battles of the 2027 cycle. Programs like Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, and UCLA have all been in contact, each eager to land a 6’6” lead guard with his unique blend of size and skill.

But North Carolina’s early offer signifies their strong interest in making him the cornerstone of their next championship push.

What’s Next for Gibson?

Over the coming months, Gibson will continue to dominate the EYBL circuit, showcase at summer camps, and take official visits as he narrows his list. For Tar Heel fans, one thing is clear: King Gibson is a prospect to watch, and his decision could shape the future of Chapel Hill basketball.

Stay tuned, because this recruiting race is only just beginning and it already feels like the start of a royal reign.
