Liverpool were concerned that if their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham dragged on too long, they would miss out on other transfer targets

The Athletic reports on this. They claim the Reds were concerned because there were no guarantees regarding a deal.

According to them, the 19-year-old could easily decide to stay at the Bundesliga club this summer. Even if he decides to leave, Manchester City and Real Madrid may be more appealing options for him.

As a result, if the Merseyside outfit did proceed with negotiations, they were dissatisfied with the length of the talks.

Liverpool were concerned that if they spent the majority of the window negotiating with Dortmund only to miss out on the teenager, their alternative targets would be unavailable.

Brighton’s Alexis MacAllister, and even Chelsea’s Mason Mount, could have been snapped up by the time the Reds conceded defeat to Bellingham.

Jurgen Klopp wants his transfer business completed as soon as possible so that his squad is ready for pre-season, which begins in early July.

As a result, the club is already considering alternative targets, with the Seagulls’ World Cup winner among them.

Liverpool is interested in Mac Allister.

Brighton value the Argentina international at around £70 million, according to FootballTransfers.

If this was the price Liverpool was offered if they had just signed Bellingham, there was little chance of a deal happening.

However, with an extra £130 million at their disposal, Mac Allister could be a fantastic addition to Klopp’s squad.

In addition to the Premier League star, there would be enough money in the budget to sign other midfield targets, including Mason Mount.
