Barry Ferguson is set to evaluate the Rangers squad as he aims to assert his authority at Ibrox. The club legend has returned, but this time as a figure on the sidelines rather than on the pitch.
Ferguson has committed fully to the Rangers project, agreeing to stay until the end of the season. His goal is to boost the morale and confidence of the struggling team.
One player Ferguson has already shown support for is Vaclav Cerny, who has impressed with his goal-scoring form. Ferguson believes Cerny is one of the few Rangers players who have pushed through physical challenges this season. Despite injuries affecting the squad, Cerny has maintained his performance and managed his fitness effectively.
The Czech winger, 26, has scored 14 goals this season, many of which have been crucial for Rangers. Earlier in January, Ferguson praised Cerny for his decisive contributions, noting that his goals have earned the team 14 points, which have been vital to their standings.
However, both Ferguson and Cerny are only contracted until the end of the current season. While Ferguson remains focused on the immediate games and has not confirmed any long-term commitment, Cerny’s future is uncertain as his parent club, Wolfsburg, may seek a permanent transfer.
Reports indicate Wolfsburg could demand over £6 million for Cerny, a price that might be beyond Rangers’ budget. Ferguson acknowledged the financial challenge and suggested that the club’s decision would depend on the stance of chief executive Patrick Stewart.
