Ashley Young was ecstatic after Aston Villa’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday, and not just because of the outcome for his team
The 37-year-old came on as a substitute in the second half yesterday and was pleased that the Reds’ dropped points benefited his former club Manchester United.
Jurgen Klopp’s side now trail the fourth-placed Red Devils by three points, with only one match remaining, so Erik ten Hag’s side only need a draw from their final two games to finish ahead of the Merseysiders.
Nothing like a plan coming together, OOPS ???????? @GNev2 https://t.co/jm1w2xrOvb

On Sunday morning, Young took to Twitter and quoted a Sky Sports exchange between Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher about the race for Champions League qualification, gloating: “Nothing like a plan coming together, OOPS!” @GNev2“
If Manchester United finish ahead of Liverpool in the final Premier League table, which now appears to be a foregone conclusion, they will have earned it over the course of the entire nine-month season.
Despite putting together a seven-game winning streak to keep Ten Hag’s side honest in the Champions League race, the Reds were ultimately too far behind to overtake the Old Trafford outfit.
We’ll still finish ahead of Aston Villa, even if they’ve had a fantastic season under Unai Emery, so Young may be better off focusing on his own team rather than trolling opponents on social media.
