Jurrien Timber has hinted that a move away from Ajax could begin soon, with Liverpool reportedly interested in the Dutch international
Speaking to Algemeen Dagblad, the 21-year-old defender revealed that, while he is happy at Ajax, talks about a possible departure could begin soon, with Timber recently meeting with the club’s sporting director, Sven Mislintat, to discuss summer plans.
Timber was reportedly on Liverpool’s radar in March, with the £44m-rated defender a player who could be useful to Jurgen Klopp next season. And, according to the player, talks about leaving Amsterdam could start soon.
“I met him (Sven Mislintat) here at De Toekomst and then we spoke briefly and one-on-one,” Timber said when asked about his future at Ajax and plans for the summer. He spent more time with my agent. Ajax, as far as I know, wants to keep me here.
“Aside from that, I’m at a loss for words.” That will most likely be discussed soon. Actually, I’m in the same boat as last year. I’m not sure if I’ll take that step right now. I’m delighted to be at Ajax. You can always express yourself here.”
Liverpool must sign Timber before it is too late.
With Joe Gomez and Joel Matip both tipped to leave the club this summer, Liverpool’s defense is slowly emerging as a potential weak spot in their squad, and as a result, signing Timber as soon as possible could be an outstanding transfer decision from the Reds.
The centre-back has established himself as one of Ajax’s most exciting prospects and a player who could thrive in the Premier League, and Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp could be the ideal next destination for the 21-year-old this summer.
