Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is said to have given the club permission to pursue Barcelona striker Ansu Fati in order to improve his attacking options.

Richarlison, who has struggled in front of goal, scored Friday night against Fulham in the Carabao Cup, but it was not enough to keep Spurs out of the first round.

The Brazil number nine has failed to fill the vacuum left by Harry Kane‘s departure to Bayern Munich after a disastrous season in north London in which he scored just one league goal.

Spurs are attempting to restore their identity following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino in 2019, and Postecoglou, who was visibly irritated by his team’s failure to progress in the Carabao Cup, admitted he expected Richarlison to improve despite his goal.

“I understand why other people are looking at that,” he explained, “but for me, it’s about contributing to our football and how we play.”

“I thought we gave the ball away a little too much tonight, not just him, but a few of the players in that boat.” It’s an important component of our game that I want Richy to focus on.

“I believe the goals will come.” Our strikers and attacking players will have opportunities to score goals. At this moment, our all-around game is far more important.”

Fulham will try to put last weekend’s disappointment behind them when they travel to Burnley in the Premier League.
