An experienced basketball player from UNC accesses the transfer portal

Fifth-year college forward and two-year UNC basketball contributor Jae’Lyn Withers is keeping his options open as he looks ahead to the next step in his basketball journey

With the possibility still lingering that the NCAA could grant all players another year of eligibility, many athletes are entering the transfer portal in hopes of extending their college careers—and now, that list includes Withers. According to PortalUpdates, the 24-year-old entered the portal this week.

Withers recently wrapped up his second season at North Carolina after spending three years at Louisville. This past season, the Charlotte native averaged 6.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 17.5 minutes per game, starting 20 of 37 contests for the Tar Heels.

During his time with the Cardinals, which included the COVID-shortened 2020–21 season, the 6-foot-9, 220-pound forward put up averages of 8.0 points and 5.6 rebounds, often playing a key role in the lineup.

A former four-star recruit, Withers began high school at North Meck (N.C.) before transferring to Cleveland Heights (Ohio) for his senior year in 2018–19. He was ranked No. 123 nationally in the 247Sports 2019 Composite rankings.

According to reports, the outgoing UNC basketball transfer is prepared to declare the winner.

UNC basketball’s one-and-done guard Ian Jackson could be just hours away from revealing his next move

Jackson, a former five-star recruit out of New York, entered the transfer portal two weeks ago. Since then, he’s remained one of the most sought-after uncommitted players in the country. Now, it appears his transfer decision is right around the corner.

According to recruiting insider Adam Zagoria, Jackson is expected to make his announcement on Monday afternoon. St. John’s is widely considered the favorite to land him, although Jackson has hinted at being close to a decision since last week.

During his freshman year at UNC, Jackson posted averages of 11.9 points and 2.7 rebounds in 23.8 minutes per game. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound guard started 12 of the Tar Heels’ 36 games and shot an efficient 45.6 percent from the field, 39.5 percent from deep, and 72.3 percent from the free-throw line.

As of now, Jackson hasn’t declared for the NBA Draft, but he’s projected by several outlets as a potential second-round pick. He’s currently ranked No. 8 overall in the transfer portal by 247Sports
