On Monday night in Durham, the Duke Blue Devils defeated ACC opponent NC State 74-64.
There were many crazy scenes near the end of that event, but not many of them had anything to do with the game itself.
With less than five minutes remaining in regulation, everything went completely out of control. 63-62 was the Blue Devils’ lead. Big guy Khaman Maluach started throwing up under the basket, interrupting an offensive possession as Duke tried to extend that lead. He became ill and was sent to the sidelines. Fortunately, he wouldn’t be required.
The Blue Devils won by 10 points after finishing the game with an 11-2 run. The host side overcame an early deficit thanks to Cooper Flagg’s 23 points in the second half
Head coach Jon Scheyer gave an update on Khaman Maluach following the game. He explained the cause of his unexpected illness as well. He drank a lot of Gatorade since he was experiencing cramps.
That is what transpired when he regurgitated. He was making every effort to return to the game. He obviously had too much to drink. The game made him feel better. -Jon Scheyer
However, the lunacy would not stop there. A Duke supporter needed to be carried out of the arena shortly after Maluach’s illness. Shortly after seeing the vomiting on the court, she seemed to have fainted.
In regular, Maluach left the game with 4:21 remaining. At 3:30, the fan was escorted out. The interval between the incidences was less than one minute of gameplay.
