Liverpool’s alleged pursuit of Ismael Bennacer has been thwarted, with Tuttomercatoweb reporting that he is now on the verge of signing a new contract with AC Milan after a meeting today
Bennacer appears to be on the approach of signing a contract with the Rossoneri. According to Tuttomercatoweb, his agent met with the Milan hierarchy on Wednesday.
Milan has offered the Algerian a new four-and-a-half-year contract worth £67,500 per week. Only minor elements remain to be worked out before Bennacer signs a new contract with San Siro.
Bennacer, a Liverpool target, is close to signing a new contract with AC Milan.
However, it appears he will sign a new contract with the Serie A champions.
A couple of Premier League clubs, especially Liverpool, will be disappointed.
Tuttomercatoweb revealed at the end of last month that Liverpool were keeping an eye on his negotiations with Milan. Jurgen Klopp appears to be a huge fan of the 25-year-old.
The Reds must strengthen in the middle of the field in the coming weeks. Some of their players have reached their thirties. Meanwhile, Naby Keita has never been able to live up to the hype. And the club’s loan signing of Arthur Melo has yet to pay off.
Bennacer would have been a fantastic addition for the Reds. This season, the £52 million midfielder has been one of the most prolific tacklers in the Italian top division. Meanwhile, according to FBRef, few players have had more touches in the centre of the park.
Thierry Henry admires him as a player. Many Liverpool fans would have been overjoyed if he had ended up moving to Merseyside.
Unfortunately for his followers, he looks to be content to stay put.
