The on-loan Liverpool midfielder is continuing to shine for Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership
Leighton Clarkson, on loan from Liverpool, has added another eye-catching moment to his growing portfolio at Aberdeen, as manager Barry Robson praised the midfielder.
He made it five league goals for the season in the Dons’ 3-0 win over St Mirren, scoring for the first time since the Scottish Premiership split. With an expertly crafted free-kick that gave opposition goalkeeper Trevor Carson no chance, the 21-year-old put the hosts ahead inside 15 minutes.
The Reds youngster curled over the four-man wall into the top corner from a tight angle on the left side of the 18-yard box for his sixth goal in all competitions. He opened his account for the Scottish side against Wednesday’s opponents before doubling his tally with an exquisite match-winning free-kick against St Johnstone.
Since then, he has continued to score spectacular goals from midfield, including a volley in December against Rangers and former Liverpool academy coach Michael Beale.
Former Everton youth player Thierry Small was sent off for Stephen Robinson’s side in the first half, complicating matters for the visiting Paisley side. Graeme Shinnie scored twice either side of halftime to put Aberdeen four points clear in third place.
Robson has frequently praised the on-loan talent as he continues his development in men’s football, and the 44-year-old has emphasized the importance of the Blackburn-born midfielder to his team.

“He is a talented boy,” he said, according to the Scotsman. “He has that quality – he gives you that feeling when a player puts a ball down and you think, ‘hmmm, this is a goal.'”
“He has been an important member of our team. You can tell the difference when (Yiber) Ramadani and Shinnie return.”
Aberdeen’s victory ensured that European football would return to Pittodrie, as they finished in the top three. “Thank you for your support this season,” he said in a video posted on the official club Twitter account. It’s been amazing. We’ll catch up in Europe.”
