Despite Real Madrid’s defeat, Michael Owen believes Liverpool’s player is the best in the world
Despite conceding six goals in two legs against Real Madrid, Michael Owen lauded Liverpool’s back five.
The Reds were defeated 6-2 on aggregate in the last 16 of the Champions League by the same team who defeated them in last season’s championship.
This has fueled speculation over whether Jurgen Klopp may need to restructure his squad when the summer transfer window opens.
Yet, Owen told BT Sport that he believes there is still plenty of room for the German to improve following a dismal season.

“I think Liverpool have had their fill,” he remarked.

“Looking at their starting lineup, there is no one better than their goalie. Their right back is superb, as is their left back.
“Virgil van Dijk is perhaps the best in the world when he is in form. Ibrahima Konate is a genius.”
The objective for Liverpool is to get their team structure correct so that their backline, particularly their full-backs, are not as exposed after the international break.
Man earning £240,000 every week Van Dijk is the finest in the world, but he hasn’t been at his best this season, possibly due to fitness issues.
Alisson is fantastic and has saved Liverpool numerous times, but he made a ricket at the worst possible time in this tie, swinging the momentum in Madrid’s favor.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is being questioned, but he, Konate, and Andy Robertson have so much quality that if the midfield in front of them improves next season, Liverpool will aim to rediscover their old standards.
