Tyrone Mings of Aston Villa left his imprint on Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo…
Cody Gakpo was the victim of a vicious challenge during Liverpool’s match against Aston Villa, and images of his body have since circulated on social media.
Tyrone Mings caught the attacker high on the midriff during the Saturday afternoon Premier League clash.
It marked the end of a disappointing first half for the Reds, who trailed the visitors by a goal at the break.
Villa’s Ollie Watkins missed a penalty before Jacob Ramsey put his team ahead by one goal.
Gakpo appeared to have equalized for the hosts in the second half, but his strike was disallowed for offside.
However, in his final home game for the club, substitute Roberto Firmino came off the bench to equalize for the Reds in the 89th minute.
One point is better than none, but it is not an ideal result for Jurgen Klopp’s team, who remain in fourth place behind Manchester United.
With their draw against Villa and United’s road win over Bournemouth, their chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League are even slimmer than they were before kickoff.

The Red Devils now only need one point from their final two games to secure fourth place.
Fans are dissatisfied with Mings’ challenge.
However, in a first half full of significant incidents, one in particular has enraged Liverpool fans.
Gakpo was looking to help his team find a way back into the game shortly before the break.
He went to compete for a loose ball with Villa defender Mings, who missed and hit the Dutchman in the stomach.
The attacker was left in a heap on the ground, but despite checks for a possible red card, he escaped without punishment.
Should he have been sent away? Because Gakpo, clearly upset, revealed the extent of the damage to referee John Brooks.
And the scars are brutal, with large scratches left by the studs down his chest.
This season, several defenders have left their marks on players, most recently when Yerry Mina pinched and scratched Erling Haaland during Manchester City’s match against Everton.
Chelsea’s Kai Havertz was involved in one scenario that was almost identical to what happened to Gakpo. When Leicester’s Daniel Amartey caught the German as he cleared the ball, he left a similar mark on the attacker.
