The competition to sign Mason Mount this summer is getting fierce, and The Athletic reports that the player is leaning more and more in the direction of Manchester United
The Red Devils are now interested in signing the England international, and Liverpool’s stance on the Chelsea midfielder has slightly changed as a result of United’s involvement in this transfer battle.
Long believed to be interested in Mount, Liverpool is now prepared to give up on the 24-year-old if a bidding war breaks out.
Liverpool does, however, have a backup plan in place, even though they are prepared to give up on Mount if United’s interest persists.
Indeed, if Mount proves to be too challenging of a target, Liverpool may opt to pursue Mohammed Kudus.
Given how different players Kudus and Mount are from one another, this is, to put it mildly, very interesting.
Of course, Mount is most effective when playing in the middle of the field, but Kudus is much more adaptable than that.
He is capable of playing on either wing, up front, and in the number 10 position. Although Liverpool will undoubtedly benefit greatly from this versatility, the Ghanaian wouldn’t really contribute all that much to solving the Reds’ current midfield dilemma.
But given that Kudus has recently demonstrated his ability to play anywhere on the field, it’s possible that he could once more be retrained to play in a Jurgen Klopp midfield.
He definitely possesses the necessary engine, and there is no reason to doubt his technical proficiency either.
Kudus is a very quick player as well. He actually recorded a higher top speed this season than players like Cody Gakpo of Liverpool, making him one of the faster players in Europe, according to The Speeds Database.
This is definitely one to watch as summer approaches.
