Jurgen Klopp’s squad struggled to start the season but showed signs of life right before the World Cup break.

The German manager will try to recruit players during the January transfer window to improve his club in the second half of the season, with a focus on his midfield troubles.

There will also be departures, with up to six players leaving Anfield during the winter transfer window.

Nat Phillips, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Bobby Clark (on loan), Ben Doak (on loan), and, unexpectedly, Roberto Firmino could all depart Anfield in January, according to the Liverpool Echo.

With a new midfielder on the way and their contracts set to expire in the summer, Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain are the most likely to leave Liverpool.

Firmino’s contract expires in the summer, but it would be surprising if the Brazilian departed because he has been outstanding for Klopp’s side and the German coach as injury difficulties up top with Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota out for some time.
