Liverpool’s chase of Romeo Lavia continues as they seek to replace their departing midfielders
The issue that is currently dominating the Liverpool gossip mill is if the Reds will eventually conclude terms with Southampton for Roméo Lavia. Jurgen Klopp and his team are eager to add the 19-year-old to their ranks as they look to fill the void left by the losses of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.
Liverpool have now presented three bids to persuade the Saints to sell Lavia, but every rumor repeats the same facts – they want a minimum of £50 million.
However, a recent update from transfer reporter Dean Jones may give Reds fans a glimmer of hope in the midst of this back-and-forth regarding money. Jones claimed on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast (via The Boot Room) that Southampton may accept less than their official asking price for Lavia.
“They [Liverpool] have returned with a better offer.” Saints, according to my understanding, want a guarantee of £40 million plus add-ons. People will remark, ‘Wait a minute, that’s not right; everything I’m reading says £50 million and up.’ That is also true because they have a public stance and a public indication, which is great and common, and they need to acquire as much money as possible for this athlete.
“However, based on conversations I’ve had with people, I believe he will still sell for less than £50 million.” We all come from different places and have different perspectives on the situation.”
Southampton have rejected Liverpool’s proposals, but the Reds are ready to complete a deal. Saints boss Russell Martin, on the other hand, has stated that he expects the midfielder to play in their Championship opener against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night.
Lavia is just as anxious to take on a new challenge, thus Southampton will almost certainly accept an offer shortly, especially if the current update on their attitude is correct.
