Goncalo Inacio, a defender for Sporting CP, favors a move to Manchester United despite Liverpool’s interest.

Despite Liverpool’s interest, Sporting CP player Goncalo Inacio favours a move to Premier League rivals Manchester United this summer, according to o Jogo via the Evening Standard (h/t Liverpool Echo).

In recent weeks, the Anfield team has been linked to a bid for the center-back. Currently, the Portuguese international and the Primeira Liga team are at odds over a contract as they want to raise his release clause.

Inacio now appears destined to enter the English top flight during the forthcoming transfer window. He is, however, considering the Old Trafford team. The 21-year-old is also on Newcastle United‘s radar. He does not like the idea, though.

The Portuguese player progressed via Sporting CP’s youth systems. The center-back had the chance to establish himself in the Leoes’ senior team a few seasons ago.
The defender has since been a crucial member of the team with its headquarters in Lisbon. He has consistently been one of Ruben Amorim‘s team’s first picks in the backline during the current campaign.

Last year, Man United’s defense was largely reliable. Erik ten Hag had faith in Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane‘s collaboration. Additionally, the Old Trafford team currently has access to Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire.
As for Liverpool, we had a miserable 2022–2023 season. Surprisingly, our defense seemed unsteady. Virgil van Dijk didn’t appear to be his best self. The Holland representative lacked a regular partner as well.

Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate are available to the Merseysiders, but they each have their own fitness difficulties. Joe Gomez is another member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad, but throughout the years, the Englishman has not lived up to expectations.

Thus, the Anfield team’s top priority this summer should undoubtedly be recruiting a new center-back. Will we be able to persuade Inacio to join the club and change his mind? Time will only tell.
