Kentucky Lands Alabama Transfer Mouhamed Dioubate, Adding Depth and Defensive Grit
Former Alabama forward Mouhamed Dioubate has officially committed to Kentucky, announcing his transfer on Monday evening. The sophomore entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on April 4 and quickly attracted attention thanks to his strong SEC résumé, physical play, and impressive efficiency.
Dioubate was a key contributor off the bench for Alabama during the 2023–24 season, appearing in all 37 games. He averaged 7.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks in just 16 minutes per game, while shooting a stellar 61.7% from the field and 46.2% from three (12-of-26).
His breakout performance came in a dominant showing against Vanderbilt, where he tallied 22 points and 10 boards on 8-of-9 shooting. Against Kentucky—his new team—Dioubate averaged 8.3 points and 7 rebounds across three victories.
While not the centerpiece of Alabama’s offense, Dioubate stood out for his relentless energy and defensive commitment. He frequently earned the team’s “Hard Hat” award, recognizing effort and hustle, and was hailed by head coach Nate Oats as a tone-setter for the Crimson Tide. Statistically, he was among the nation’s most efficient rebounders, surpassing 110 rebounds in under 310 minutes early in the season—a feat unmatched in Division I at the time.
Dioubate gives Kentucky a valuable veteran presence with proven SEC experience. Known for his rebounding and defensive grit, he provides a reliable, high-upside option with two years of eligibility remaining. Whether coming off the bench or competing for a larger role, he’s expected to bolster the Wildcats’ frontcourt depth as the team reshapes its roster.
Dioubate’s return to the SEC means he’ll likely face his former team next season, adding intrigue to what could be a defining chapter in his college basketball journey.
