Liverpool has been urged to proceed with the £42 million acquisition. The Premier League star has been described as a ‘perfect match’ for Klopp’s approach.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been told that the ideal solution to his team’s midfield problems is only 36 miles away in the form of Manchester City star Kalvin Phillips

The Reds manager has seen his midfield options decrease this summer as a result of six departures from his engine room. While the exits of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Arthur Melo, and Naby Keita were long anticipated, the sales of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho came as a surprise.

To make up for the gap, Liverpool promptly signed Alexis MacAllister and new Kop star Dominik Szoboszlai. Waturu Endo was also signed from Stuttgart for a fee of £16.2 million, but Klopp needs at least one more body.

To that purpose, he has narrowed his attention to three players: Ryan Gravenberch, Kouadio Kone, and Cheick Doucoure. Doucoure has been the most closely associated of the three. While Crystal Palace are hesitant to sell, there is speculation that a £70 million bid would force them to sell.

As a result, according to sources on Saturday morning, Klopp is pressuring Liverpool executives to pay that fee and bring the Palace player to Anfield.

However, the Reds have recently been linked with a surprise move for Phillips. Since joining Manchester City for £42 million from Leeds last summer, the England international has struggled to find game time.

As a result, speculations of a move to Anfield, possibly on a season-long loan, have gained traction in recent days.

And, with Phillips in desperate need of playing time in order to make England’s squad for the 2024 European Championships, the decision has been welcomed.

Liverpool has been instructed to complete the sale of Kalvin Phillips.
Former Liverpool and City goalkeeper David James believes Phillips is more than capable of adapting to Klopp’s style at Anfield.

“I believe Kalvin Phillips is a terrific player,” James told GGRecon.

“Initially, the idea of Declan Rice joining Manchester City made perfect sense given how well he and Kalvin play together for England, but that obviously did not happen.”

“There’s no reason Kalvin Phillips couldn’t fit into that Liverpool team.”

“I’m not too concerned about his injury record because I seem to recall him spending most of last season on the bench for Manchester City.” There’s no reason to be concerned about his lack of playing time because it implies that these players are accomplishing nothing while they’re not playing.

“I can assure you that all players are still as fit as needed, and Manchester City have started the season flying despite only having three pre-season games, so I don’t believe Kalvin will need much time to adjust if he moves to Liverpool.”

Phillips has appeared in 21 games for City, but has only started two and played 291 minutes in the Premier League as he struggles to find a way past Rodri into Pep Guardiola’s midfield.
