Opinion: Pochettino must make his greatest decision regarding Chelsea before Liverpool.

This weekend, Mauricio Pochettino will decide who will be his new permanent captain of Chelsea and who will be the deputy captain. The captain argument is a highly interesting one

Poch will undoubtedly make some major decisions during his time at the club, and this one will undoubtedly rank among the largest. There are several variables to consider in this regard, including experience, the candidate’s vocal style, their ability to set an example both on and off the field, how they inspire their teammates, and, of course, how frequently they are expected to be on the field regardless of the situation.

Unfortunately, I still don’t think we have a perfect candidate in our team at this time. However, we do have people who would make a good pick and who will develop into the position and become much more effective in it.

The candidates Pochettino appears to be examining for the position include Thiago Silva, Ben Chiwell, and Reece James.

James seems like a solid option and has the potential to be a great captain. However, as of now, I don’t believe he is vocal enough on the pitch, thus he is not the ideal prospect. But does the concept of perfection even exist?

Additionally, Thiago Silva is not the ideal candidate. He won’t likely start much when everyone is healthy, and I don’t think he’ll be vocal enough on the field either. He also obviously doesn’t speak English well. There is no better candidate in terms of experience and setting an example, but I would like to think of him as a vice.

Chilwell, Ben I also think it’s a good choice, but not flawless. He is someone I do hear being a little louder on the pitch, but he also doesn’t quite fit the bill.

Enzo Fernandez
Enzo Fernandez

Enzo Fernandez is the most ideal candidate in my opinion to serve as captain, yet I must go against what I just said and say that he isn’t perfect just yet because he is still relatively new to the club and doesn’t speak English well enough.

There aren’t many other individuals in this group that, at the moment, would make a viable captain option; in my opinion, people like Raheem Sterling and Kepa Arrizabalaga shouldn’t even be considered. This squad does have some leaders and future captain candidates, but they aren’t quite there yet.

It’s a difficult decision, and I can’t even decide clearly on it. On it, I’m torn. Enzo would be my choice if he spoke English fluently. He has undoubtedly improved his English much since starting to learn the language, and he has probably come a long way in just half a season.

But in all honesty, I have a strong feeling that James should take the position and that he will grow into a premier club captain. He is proud to wear the badge, battles for Chelsea both on and off the field, is well-versed in the club, and says all the right things. James is definitely the greatest choice in my opinion

Because Poch will make his final choice before the Liverpool game on Sunday, we will soon learn who the next permanent captain is. Even during the press conference prior to the game, he might make the announcement. But let’s check it out.
