Liverpool appear to be closing in on another summer addition as Jurgen Klopp’s side prepares for the new season
Liverpool appears to be closing in on a third signing of the summer, with Arsenal withdrawing from the race for his signature.
The Reds have only signed two players so far, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, but they have been quite active in terms of outgoings. James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, and Roberto Firmino all departed the club on free transfers, and more have followed in the weeks following.
Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have both joined the Saudi Pro League, while Fabio Carvalho has joined RB Leipzig on loan. Liverpool will almost certainly need to strengthen significantly in the coming weeks.
According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the move of Romeo Lavia is simply a “matter of time.”
“Work is now underway to find the right structure with meticulous talks to ensure that bonuses are achievable,” he tweeted, adding that “[the] player is just waiting […] to undergo a medical to complete the transfer, so that he can be a part of the summer camp in Singapore.”
Personal terms have already been agreed upon, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirming Arsenal’s withdrawal from the contest in a tweet.
Though Football Insider reported that Arsenal were planning a move for Lavia, it’s believed that the Gunners’ interest in another midfielder is contingent on the future of Thomas Partey, whom Mikel Arteta recently acknowledged as being a part of his plans.
Lavia can play as a No.6 or No.8 and could fill any position at Anfield, though Jurgen Klopp may add extra midfield cover before the transfer window closes.
Transfermarkt values the adolescent at €32 million.
