Liverpool had a quiet transfer market in January, but they could make some changes today.

Despite the fact that the transfer deadline passed last night, Liverpool might still reach four agreements today to accept terms with players who are out of contract in the summer. The Reds had a disappointing season this time, finishing ninth in the Premier League table after winning just eight of their 19 games. And Express Sport looks at four players who could join the club before the summer.

Liverpool sorely needs midfield reinforcements, as Fabinho, Thiago, and Jordan Henderson have all struggled to replicate their influence from last season. Thomas Lemar, a France international, has spent the last four and a half years with Atletico Madrid after joining the club in 2012.

However, it does not appear like he will sign fresh terms in Spain, where Atletico Madrid is looking to save costs. And if he decides to join Liverpool, the 27-year-old offensive midfielder boasts all of the characteristics required to thrive in England.

If a deal for Lemar falls through, Klopp could turn his attention to Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar. The 24-year-old came through the youth at his current club and has gone on to score 41 goals and assist 35 times in 224 first-team appearances.

Aouar has been in and out of the starting lineup due to injuries this season. He would, however, give Klopp a new option in the Reds’ midfield if the German can persuade the player to join the club.

Ndicka, Evan

Liverpool must also improve their defense, which has struggled to stop opposing attackers this season. Evan Ndicka, who has spent the last four and a half seasons at Eintracht Frankfurt, is a possible replacement for Virgil van Dijk at center-back.

The 23-year-old played in all six of Frankfurt’s Champions League group games this season, as the club advanced to the final 16 of Europe’s top club competition.

Athletic Bilbao’s Inigo Martinez could be a target for Liverpool. The 31-year-old, who has 19 Spain caps, has been troubled by knee and foot injuries this season but has played in nearly 350 La Liga games in his career. Martinez received two caps last year despite not being named to his country’s World Cup squad. And his club and international experience could help Klopp’s team.
