On Sunday, the Reds announced the £60 million signing of Dominik Szoboszlai, the 22-year-old’s arrival coming just weeks after the £35 million signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.

In addition to fresh additions, Liverpool will welcome players back from injuries during pre-season. Kaide Gordon, who has been out for a year and a half, is one player making a huge comeback.

The 18-year-old returned to grass running in May, according to the Athletic, and will step up his recovery with the under-21s in two weeks.

The winger, who has made four appearances for Liverpool since arriving from Derby in 2021, has been out since February 2022.

Gordon has been dealing with a pelvic growth issue for the past 17 months, which has prevented him from training and forced the club to put him on a special regimen.

Gordon will be given a tailored strategy upon his return, with the club taking care not to overburden him.

What happens next for Kaide Gordon?

Gordon first made headlines in the 2021-22 season with several impressive performances and an FA Cup goal.

He hasn’t featured in a competitive match since a Premier League 2 encounter against Leeds United 17 months ago.

The player is expected to miss the club’s pre-season tour, which begins later this month. He is expected to start the 2023-24 season with the Under-21s before returning to first-team training.

“It was a really difficult season for Kaide,” Liverpool academy coach Alex Inglethorpe told The Athletic. Possibly considerably more difficult given where he was when he was injured.

“But I’ve kept in touch with Kaide on a regular basis throughout, and I’d back him to get back to where he was.” He certainly has the personality for it.

“As difficult as it is, he probably just needs to reintegrate into the Under-21s in pre-season, find his feet, and see where he stands.” He must relearn to trust his body and regain his rhythm. Anything is conceivable after that.”

Gordon might be loaned out early next year after he has regained full match fitness.
